In 1958 Pierre Darphin, a French specialist in cosmetology, launched an innovative research program utilising the finest plant extracts, botanical aromas, and active skin treatments to develop a breakthrough beauty concept and unique customised skincare range. An exclusive three-dimensional skincare concept that allowed all skin types to repair, restore and replenish through aromatherapy, sensorial textures and tailor-made treatments.

Whilst the skincare treatments available in the 1950’s were largely chemical based, through his extensive research Darphin recognised that plant extracts applied topically to the skin yielded more beneficial results. Having worked in hospitals in Paris treating skin and scalp problems Darphin was inspired to set up his own Institute de Beaute with a dedicated panel of professionals, including a physiotherapist, bio chemist and a skilled beauty therapist. Each patient was prescribed an individual skincare programme using state of the art plant technology, with products specifically formulated for their own skincare concerns along with a treatment for a totally tailor-made, ‘haute couture’ approach.

Pierre Darphin’s global approach to beauty was revolutionary for his time.
